JAY QUINN PLACES 2ND IN THE 5 STAR WQS IN ENGLAND

Jay Quinn has been on fire all week in the 5 star WQS at Newquay beach on the South coast of England smashing all his heats on his way to his first ever final appearance.

He was very unlucky not to take home the win, with 1 minute to go Jay was in the lead with the French surfer Mark Lacomear needing a near perfect 8 point ride to take the win off Quinn it looked like he had it in the bag but a little right popped up for Lacomear and he belted it all the way to the sand and received an 8.2 and won the event with that wave.

Well done Jay on a great result... now the team is of to the Azores for a 6 star prime event.

Stay tuned for up dates or go to ASPEUROPE.COM and watch the boys live over the next coming months

CHRIS FRIEND TAKES HOME A WIN AT THE RED BULL JUNIOR SURF MASTERS

While most of us were preparing for the onset of Monday-itis last night, Chris Friend was drinking champagne at a Gold Coast Sheraton without a care in the world.
The Twin Waters surfer landed the biggest payday of his career by winning the Mick Fanning Red Bull Junior Surf Masters at Broadbeach, taking home the $A10,000 first prize cheque.
Friend won a nail-biting final against Matt Banting after his two-wave score of 14.60 edged out the Port Macquarie youngster's tally (14.50) by just 0.10 points.
The 19-year-old began the decider well with a 7.5 wave almost immediately after the final began, but an 8.5-point ride from his opponent put Banting in front with just eight minutes left.
However, Friend found a wave at the same time and scored highly enough to hold off Banting's challenge.
Friend would have been holding his breath when the judges were deliberating their scores, after he was denied a $25,000 winners cheque at January's Hurley Burleigh Pro, where he lost a tight final to New South Welshman Dean Bowen.
“I'm going to do a bit of celebrating tonight at the Sheraton, open a couple of bottles of champagne and enjoy it,” Friend said last night.
“I had that expensive loss at the start of the year so that was in the back of my mind.
“It's my last year as a junior and I really wanted to win this event.
“It's great that Mick has put on this invitational event.”
The 20-surfer field was made up of 12 wildcards hand-picked by Fanning, including Friend, with eight more earning their spots in a qualifying contest on Friday.
Friend's previous biggest winner's cheque came earlier this year when he banked $5000 for his victory in February's Couran Cove Pro at South Stradbroke Island.
He had recently returned from a strong showing at a six-star World Qualifying Series event in Sri Lanka, where he was narrowly beaten in the round of 16.

LUKE CEDERMAN GETS THE FITH AND FINAL SPOT IN THE SOON TO BE RELEASED INNERSECTION

Volcom surfer Luke " Kiwi-man" Cederman ran a clean campaign, surfed with a lot of heart and earned a Top 5 slot in the new movie "Innersection". The workingman hero was in Bali when he found out he had won a spot in the movie.

Luke smoking a cigar to his success

Here is his interview

Congratulations, you've got a section in the movie.

What! Are you serious? Oh my god, that's amazing. Far out. That's awesome.

It was pretty CLOSE AT THE END, but you just slipped into the fifth slot.

Far out. That's cool.

So, you're in Bali right now?

Yeah, I was just gonna cruise here for a month, but now I don't know. New plans maybe.

Well, that's an alright place to be. Just have someone show you where the rights are?

Ha ha, yeah, for sure. Need some of those.

How long have you been a pro?

I don't know if I call it pro surfer...I don't know.

Okay, let's do math. How old are you?

I just turned 27.

And when did you get sponsored?

Um...probably when I was 13, but Volcom picked me up about 10 years ago.

So, you're saying you have a real job too?

I've worked in my parents motel for a bit and I've been in Perth doing carpentry.

Yeah, those are jobs.

I'm not really a grom anymore...much as I'd like to be.

Yeah, the guy who qualified in front of you is 12 years old. What's been your biggest accomplishment in surfing to date?

I've never really won anything. This is definitely by far the top of the list.

So you're gonna put some work into the DVD?

Ah, yeah, definitely. I'm gonna go full out, get some better waves and do the best I can.

Did you think it would be hard for someone from a small island country like New Zealand to compete with surfers from places like the US and Australia?

Yeah, definitely. Coming from such a small country, it's pretty daunting. But I got some huge support for me and Damon from the New Zealanders, and I've got a lot of friends around the world that would be keen to see me in the movie.

I probably got more emails from Damon [Meade, filmmaker] than everyone else combined.

He's a frother, aye.

All Innersection qualifiers will get to host their own premeir for the movie. Their local shop, their local theater, their local crew...they all get to be the first to see the all the final sections. So, how would you roll that out?

Raglan, definitely. There's a shop and a lane with a bar that has a projector into an open courtyard...it's really good. It will be amazing.

Well congratulations.

Yeah, amazing.
