QUINN PLACES 2ND IN 6 STAR COLD WATER CLASIC IN SCOTLAND

Jay Quinn and Brent Dorrington surfed a close final in clean 4-foot conditions in Scotland, Thurso East, and despite a wave on the whistle, Volcom's Jay Quinn had to settle for second place at this 6 Star ASP Event.

However, Jay still acquires the title of Lord, 2640 ASP ratings points, $10,000 prize money, and a boost up the O’Neill Cold Water Classic Series rankings.

“I’m not happy with second place right now but I am also not unhappy,” said Jay. “It’s been an amazing week. I love coming to Scotland the conditions have been amazing.”

COCO HO WINS THE ASP WQS 6 STAR EVENT AT NEWCASTLE ON THE WEEKEND

Hawaii’s Coco Ho who only recently turned 19 has won the Association of Surfing Professionals 6 Star Women’s Legendary Pacific Coast Pro in excellent 4 to 5 feet surf at Merewether Beach on the weekend.

“It’s a good start the year for me – 5th on the Gold Coast was OK and winning here is a bonus – I’ll go back to Hawaii now and really freshen up before I return for Bells – I’ll go home feeling good after today’s win!”

VOLCOM GROMS KYUSS KING AND QUINN BRUCE TAKE DOWN THE WAHU GROM COMP ON THE SUNSHINE COAST!

Kyuss and Quinn were on the road again heading north to participate in event 7 of the Wahu Grom Surfer series at Alexandria Headlands on the Sunshine Coast .With the wild Queensland weather subsiding long enough to complete the 2011 Sunshine Coast Wahu Surfer Groms Comp.In a reduced ten minute final, Surfing Queensland’s expert panel of judges were looking for competitors’ single best wave score, rather than the traditional scoring system of counting surfers’ best two scoring rides.
Rain, wind and 2m wild seas at Alexandra Headland couldn’t stop Byron Bays Kyuss King who dominated the U/11 Boys division.Kyuss’s near-perfect 9.6 ride (out of a possible 10) in the last minute of his heat launched him into the finals.
Kyuss continued his form in the final, patiently waiting for that high scoring wave and with 3 minutes to go Kyuss secured a flawless 9.4 (out of a possible 10) to take the victory in the final.Kyuss King U11 Boys Champion Event 5 Gold Coast and adding Event 7 Sunshine Coast Queensland.Kyuss said "I'm super stoked with the win in the tricky conditions and I scored some epic waves around the event during the waiting period, its been an epic trip for waves"

Quinn Bruce was a stand out in the under 13 boys devision and never once looked like loosing the final, surfing with speed, power and flow the judges were shocked with how good the young surfer from Noosa was.

QUINN LOOKS UNSTOPPABLE IN 2011

Jay Quinn has stormed to his third victory from four events on the SOL Series this summer and is fast becoming the most dominant surfer in New Zealand.

Quinn won the Power Balance Pro at Mount Maunganui today by blasting his opponents into submission scoring 16.37 out of a possible 20 points in the final. A near perfect 9.33 point ride out of a possible 10 early in the final helped his cause and it was a wave that his fellow three finalists could not match.

The win follows his first victory of the season at home in Gisborne back in November before winning the National Championships held at Dunedin in January and then placing an agonising runner up at the most recent event in Whangamata two weeks ago, a final he had won, until the last 40 seconds.Quinn extends his lead on the SOL Series beyond 2400 points which is a massive lead that will take a miracle to bridge by any of his fellow surfers."It's a crazy but definitely a good start to the year, hopefully I can continue this form through to the international events this year" said Jay “the Fern” Quinn.

Quinny is looking forward to a big year on the World Qualifying Series.

JAY QUINN TAKES HIS 2ND NEW ZEALAND NATIONAL TITLE IN 4 YEARS

Jay Quinn surfed to his second NZ national title in four years at the Hyundai National Surfing Championships at St Clair Beach on the weekend, it was a world class final but Quinny was just to good on the day getting a heat total of 18 out of a possible 20.Quinn's run of form has been exceptional of late after winning a SOL Surf Series event at home in November and now the nationals to remain undefeated.

Volcom's Morehu Roberts was also in the final with Quinn but he incurred an interference on his first wave in the final and ended up with a 4th placing.

QUINN BRUCE WINS RIP CURL GROMSEARCH NATIONAL FINAL

Volcom rider Quinn Bruce from the Sun Shine coast has gone from strength to strength in 2010 with solid results all year.

Quinn topped off 2010 with a win in the under 12 devision at the National Rip Curl Gromsearch Finals in QLD on the weekend, he also got the Air Asia wave of the day with his futuristic surfing.

WHANGAMATA SURF

Well the lay out of the day started by hoping in the van and picking up my mate Kezza who happened to be a damn legend and agree to come and give a hand of help for the day, then leaving for our small journey across coast to Whangamata were we would be running a fun promotion day with Whangamata surf.

We arrived in Whangamata to be greeted with some quality sun shine and began to build base for what was set to be a fun and busy day. Before we could finish setting up there was an array of frothing grommets and onlookers keen to check out what was going on. We set up the gorilla and Banana wheel. Cranked the BBQ and let the fun begin. People came by span the wheel, won a prize and took a sausage or two with them. There was a back flipping gorilla, gorillas on roofs, skating bananas, madness in the streets on the small beach town.

KYUSS KING TAKES DOWN EVENT 5 OF THE WAHU GROM SERIES

Kyuss King has been very busy competing over the past month. Lots of traveling and competing up and down the east coast in the junior surf events.Kyuss travelled north to participated in event 5 of the Wahu Grom Surfer series at Kurrawa Beach Gold Coast 11th - 12th December.A huge turn out for this event saw strong competition and quality surfing in the clean 2 - 3 foot waves.

Day 1: Kyuss started the event strong placing first in his round seeing him through to the Semi Finals.
Day 2: Kyuss started day 2 strong with an 8.8 ride and a total score of 16.45 in his Semi final earning him the highest heat score for his division and a spot into the finals.

Kyuss continued his form into the finals with an 8.4 ride which saw him lead the finals from the first minute. Kyuss went on to post a score of 16.00 out of 20 which gave Kyuss King the win and Champion of Event 5 of the Wahu Grom Surfer Comp Kurrawa Beach Gold Coast.Kyuss said he was super stoked with the win as the finals had good surfers in it and it was going to be a good final to win...

VOLCOM GROM TURDS TRAINING CAMP

The 2010 Volcom Grom training Camp was always going to be a fun filled affair with lots of laughs and plenty of ripping going down.

This year we decided to have the camp on the mid north coast at a little secret spot called, ummmmmm I forgot the name. Anyway we had three cabins booked for the 14 of us to stay at.

The entourage consisted of Grommets, Juniors, Coaches, Photographers and a Jet Ski driver. The Jet Ski driver couldn’t walk by the end of the trip and resembled Zoidburg from Futurama after spending three 10 hour days in the sun!

Day 1 consisted of everyone getting together, going for a free Surf and talking about the 3 days of drills. The camp consisted of tips on shooting photo’s, learning to tow ( the grommies lost there shit when they found out we bought a Jet Ski) and on the final day having a comp so they can put all they learned at the camp into practise.

On the second day of the camp the team awoke to perfect peaks all up and down the secluded beach break. They were absolutely chomping at the bit to get out there and show there skills. Coach Bemrose didn’t go easy on them and put them through 5 hours of heat and surf drills throughout the morning and by lunch time the Team was absolutely nackered and ready for a well earned rest. After lunch it was time to bring out the Ski and that’s when the grommets started to foam out the mouth and couldn’t wait for their first attempts at launching via the machine!

The third and final day of the camp was an absolute cracker. The grommets knew it was game day and they all had their best contest heads on.

Once all the heats were drawn up the grommets knew it was time to put their newly found skills into practise. Each and every one of them wanted nothing more than to take home the Trophy at the end of the Camp.

As the camp drew to a close, we came down to the finals. In the super grommet division we had a two way count back between Kyuss King and Jordan Lawler. In the end, it was Kyuss that got the nod from the judges and received the inaugural trophy to put on his wall for the year.

In the older division it was Harry Wheeler, the Mick Fanning doppelganger that took the win in flying form.

VOLCOM TURDS WINNING EVERY COMP AUSTRALIA WIDE!!

The Volcom “Turd” Grommet Team have been on fire lately winning every event they enter through out Australia.

Kyuss King and Quinn Bruce came First and second in the Kirra /Rhythm Challenge in a stella performance in solid 5 foot punchy Beach breaks at D’Bah on the weekend.

Sam Bond and Jordan Lawler recently took out there divisions in the Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage at Avalon Beach with the local crowed cheering on there home town Grommets.

After young Lawler took out the Teenage Rampage he set his eyes upon the RipCurl Gromsearch and toured around Australia in devastating form and blowing his Rivals away with his solid Surfing in every event, in the last event down Sth Australia Lawler smashed the Final with a perfect 10 point ride and a 8.5.
